Jagiellonian University is the oldest and one of the best universities in Poland; it consists of fifteen faculties with nearly 45 000 students, what makes it second biggest university in the country. 7083 academic staff members teach 51 disciplines and 111 specialisations.

There are 16 international degree programmes and 6 non-degree programmes run at the university, 4 of them are Erasmus Mundus programmes, of which two are run at the Institute of European Studies. JU has 217 bilateral agreements with universities from all over the world. In 1851, the first student scientific association was founded. Now, over 70 student scientific associations exist at JU. The university's Jagiellonian Library is one of the largest in the country, with almost 6.5 million volumes.
