The European integration process and the enlargement of the EU, that have led to strong efforts to dissolve borders and create an economic and political union in Europe, have entered a crucial phase. European solidarity is challenged by the economic crisis and Euro-scepticism is increasing. Among the reasons for these tensions are the gap that exists between the European political elite and the ordinary citizens, the lack of democracy at the European level, but also the fear of the influence of increasing Europeanisation and globalisation on national and regional cultural identities.
The Erasmus Mundus Master Programme "Euroculture: Europe in the Wider World'' aims to provide students with a good comprehension of the historical, religious, linguistic and other cultural aspects that have played and will play an essential, but often neglected, role in the European integration and EU enlargement process. The Euroculture programme acknowledges that the undeniable relevance of values, identity concepts or perceptions requires sensitive and well-informed professionals in this field, to work as diplomats, bureaucrats, project managers, journalists and cultural consultants.
In order to satisfy this need, the programme offers a unique and high-level international learning experience. As a Euroculture student, you will:
- Study issues that are related to European integration and the EU from an interesting perspective that focuses on the citizen and culture, rather than on abstract models and structures.
- Learn about approaches and methods from different disciplines such as social and cultural studies and international relations.
- Study at two different universities in Europe and have the chance to go to a third university outside of Europe (for a selected group of EU-students), or do an internship.
- Study and socialise with people from countries all over the world and from all imaginable cultural backgrounds.
- Partake in an international summer school with around 100 participants from all partners universities.
- Enhance your employability by developing your professional and academic skills.
