The Erasmus Mundus MA programme Euroculture is a unique, multilingual, interdisciplinary and inter-university project. Its aim is to prepare graduates from Europe and third-countries for professions in which knowledge of present Europe and European Union institutions are of relevance. The focus of the programme is on cultural and social developments: its inheritance as well as its standards, values and citizenship. Because of the multidisciplinary studies approach, the Euroculture programme stands out from many other European Regional Studies programmes. From the beginning of the programme in 1999, Euroculture was used as a concept to reflect in an interdisciplinary way on the many different expressions and manifestations of self-understandings of societies, social groups and individuals of, about and within Europe. Its core questions are:
Whether, to what extent and in which forms does a common and unique European culture exist and how is it related to other regional or non-European cultures?
How is Europe and how are cultural transformations perceived within Europe and from the outside?
What is the mutual impact of political and social processes on European culture(s) and culture(s) in Europe?
These questions are discussed and analysed in an interdisciplinary setting which includes the knowledge of historical perspectives, political issues, social relations, legal issues and religious traditions.
Through the exchange with other European universities, the Euroculture Master of Arts programme also offers the chance to gain experience with other languages, perspectives and cultural practices.
As of September/October 2006, the load of the programme is 90 ECTS-credits, which equals 16 months of full time study. The Euroculture programme brings together some 120 students who have to pass a selection procedure to be admitted. The programme is taught in the native language and/or in English and is open to students who have successfully completed a university BA programme in the fields of European Studies, History, Theology, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, International Relations, Law, Cultural studies, Anthropology, Psychology or Sociology.
The Erasmus Mundus MA programme Euroculture for advanced students is offered by a consortium of six well-established European universities. These universities are:

Note: The Euroculture programme is also offered at two other universities, namely the
University of Udine and the
University of Strasbourg. These two universities are not part of the Erasmus Mundus Euroculture consortium, which means that they cannot receive Erasmus Mundus students. Both partners participate with the consortium members in the annual Euroculture Intensive Programme. The University of Strasbourg offers a 120 ECTS Master of Arts track in which the 3 semester Euroculture programme is embedded.
The participation of the MA Programme Euroculture in the Erasmus Mundus programme is a recognition by the European Commission of Euroculture's outstanding quality as a "top joint masters programme".
The MA Programme Euroculture is an Erasmus Mundus programme, a new "global scheme" to "enhance the quality and attractiveness of European higher education world-wide". As an Erasmus Mundus programme, the Euroculture degree offers a framework that promotes "valuable exchange and dialogue between cultures" and prepares its participants for a "global, knowledge-based society".

This is what our students are saying about the programme:
Veronika Goncharova, Erasmus Mundus student 2007-2008:
"My double-degree in Euroculture has been very helpful. I managed to improve my project management skills with the Eurocompetence course during the 2nd semester, and my employers were very impressed that such a thing exists!"
Janneke Zaal about her internship experience at the Center for International Relations, in Warsaw (Poland):
"I helped to gather information for two projects for which the Center wants to apply for funding, and filled out the application forms. The experience of Eurocompetence comes in handy now!"
Kiran Wagle, Erasmus Mundus student 2006-2007:
"Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2006-2007 helped me realise my dream of studying in Europe. My formal classes comprised of lots of students from different countries with different cultural backgrounds, which presented a huge opportunity to learn and adopt multiculturalism. There were many students from third countries (beyond member countries of the European Union) supported by the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. This scholarship has changed the fate of many students."
